Mother’s Day Dailies

MOTHER's Slide-01.png

On May 10th 2020, we would have presented to you our Mother’s Day Fundraiser at the Chateau Lacombe. On the program was an eclectic selection of Arias, Lieder, Songs and Show-tunes! Our singers were completely free in their song choice, it simply had to relate to their own mother, or their motherhood.

So, we will bring some of these songs to you - virtually - over the next 10 days! Our singers have recorded their music at home, and we will present those daily inspirations through our newsletter, on Facebook and via youtube. You will hear some Mendelssohn, Rufus Wainwright, and folksongs. There will be additional material from the Pro Coro Canada archives, in particular The Way Children Sleep by Ugis Praulins. And, of course, we have some small surprises ready for you too!

We look forward to being part of your daily routines until Mother’s Day and we wish you well.

Nurturing Pro Coro: Emerging Artist Interns

Selected by competitive audition and mentored by professional PCC singers, the four vocal artists perform alongside PCC and work with Artistic Director Michael Zaugg. Not only do the singers learn to work in a professional environment, they are paid for their work, and experience a competitive application process that includes a resume and letter screening process, interview and formal audition with the Artistic Director. A priority of the program is to offer frequent feedback to the interns through informal and formal evaluations.

The development of conductors is integral to a vibrant choral scene across our country. Every year, PCC selects three emerging conductors for the Emerging Conductor Program. The conductors have the opportunity to work with Michael Zaugg and PCC intensively over a period of 10 days – both in a one-on-one capacity and working with the choir. The conductors are also able to observe multiple conductors and choirs in the Edmonton area through their contact with PCC. Each ten-day period includes the opportunity for the conductor to perform in public with PCC.

Chase your Joy: A Lesson From My Mom

“This Mother’s Day, I’m sure the morning light will still come tinged with a hint of sorrow but I will take some time for music and recall with my daughter some of the lighter times we all shared. We’ll look through old photos and reminisce about Nanny’s strength, her passion, and her mischievous side.”

Composer and Pro Coro Alto Jane Berry reflects on her mother, and composing Mass For Recovery: Phoenix Rising for Pro Coro in her honour.

Nurturing Pro Coro: Support our Emerging Composer Program

A branch of the Pro Coro Emerging Artist Program, the Emerging Composers Program fosters an understanding of the professional choral instrument and how to compose for a professional ensemble. Composers work closely with the ensemble and our Artistic Director to workshop, revise, and discover their own works. They also participate in rehearsals to deepen their understanding of the scope of what a professional choir can do.

Please consider a donation to the Pro Coro Canada Operations Fund. Your gift helps support the Emerging Composer Program, our artists in isolation, and our capacity to provide new digital musical experiences during these challenging times.
