Summer 2021 Edition

Dear Friends and supporters of Pro Coro Canada

We’re getting very close to releasing our 21.22 season! This Sunday, on our YouTube channel, you will be able to hear all about the concerts, the repertoire and season passports. You will also be able to interact with myself and fellow viewers in the live chat when the video premieres at 5:00pm MST. I look forward to seeing you!

Our most recent addition to the Pro Coro team is our accountant Judith (Judi) Rayner. Like Laura Ouellette, she also joined our team during the pandemic, at a time when the organization needed her expertise to manage financial aid packages for Covid. Meanwhile, Judi’s knowledge of the not-for-profit performing arts sector has extensively impacted our bookkeeping processes in a positive way.

I hope you enjoy our Meet the Team series, and you will hopefully see me and some of our singers this Sunday when we release the 21.22 season.

Meet the Team: Judith Rayner

Judi Rayner is an accountant with a passion for the arts and charitable sectors. She was born and raised in Winnipeg where she had her early education, including 12 years of piano lessons and later, a B.A. in English Literature. Following a stint in London, England, in the eighties, in 1992 she moved to Edmonton with her husband and four children where she began the process of becoming an accountant. Judi obtained her CMA designation in 2001 and worked as a public accountant until she retired from full time work and devoted her time to working for choral charities on a part time basis from home.  

Judi connected with Edmonton’s choral community through her children’s music education. In the early 1990s, she became affiliated with Alberta College, then Cantilon Choirs where she has been Treasurer since 1999. She was also the Treasurer of Choir Alberta for eight years. She began working with Pro Coro in the fall of 2020 and has loved working with the administrative staff coping with the challenges of Covid-19 and pressing forward for a spectacular reopening in the Fall.

1. What is your favourite book?
   I love British Crime/Spy novels by authors such as John LeCarre, Ian Rankin, and P. D. James.

2. What is your favourite movie?
   Funny Girl (1968)

3. Cilantro: yes or no?
   No

4. Cottage in the Alps, or cottage on the beach?
   Cottage on the beach.

5. What is your most memorable choral experience?
   The opening of the Winspear Centre in 1997. It was a huge performance of Mahler’s 8th symphony and among the many choirs performing was my 12-year-old daughter. The whole scene was breathtaking and I’ll never forget it.
