Since my arrival back in Montréal I've had the opportunity to reflect on my own experience with the Emerging Artists program with Michael Zaugg and Pro Coro. Within a short period of time of 10 days, I was able to build confidence in my strengths and isolate my weaknesses as a conductor. The opportunity to work with Michael off and on the podium allowed me to make changes on the spot during the choral rehearsals. There were instances where I wasn't able to harness the correct gesture to help support the music. However, the choir and Michael provided amazing feedback both positive and constructive in those moments, which allowed me to grow exponentially in my artistic vision, inspiration and communication. While I will always work on these skills, it was incredible to experience this kind of mentorship approach and I will incorporate my learning in the choirs I conduct regularly. The concert on March 5th was incredible and I was so honored to be part of it. Michael, Pro Coro singers, staff, audio engineers, volunteers and the many others part of this organization truly made this one of the best musical experiences I've ever had. Hearing the singers breathe life, expression and artistry into the music was stunning. The emotional connection that the singers and Michael were creating via the music was a greatly impactful experience. This resonates with me in a profound way, and I will always be grateful.
