Damien Geter

Damien Geter is an acclaimed American composer and bass-baritone known for blending classical music with styles from the Black diaspora to promote social justice. His celebrated works span chamber, vocal, orchestral, and operatic compositions, praised for their innovation and skillful vocal writing. As a performer, his commanding presence and resonant voice have earned widespread acclaim. Geter is the Composer-in-Residence for the Richmond Symphony through 2026 and serves as Interim Music Director & Artistic Advisor at Portland Opera.

Experience Geter’s works at Let Us Cheer the Weary Traveller on Sunday, February 16, alongside pieces by acclaimed composers Nathaniel Dett and Adolphus Hailstork. The Archbishop MacDonald High School Choir, directed by Lyndsey Olsen, will also share their music.

He went on to study music at the University of Alberta and is now a sought-after bass singer, writer, arranger, and clinician. Currently, Kyle can be heard as a resident performer with Pro Coro Canada and 6 Minute Warning. Kyle is also a regular performer and ensemble director for John Cameron productions. In the past, he has also had the privilege of performing with Glass Tiger and Ben Folds.
