Pro Coro Canada will perform Sechs Lieder (Six Songs) by Clara Schumann. The six songs will be performed soloistic by 5 different choir members with Leanne Regehr at the piano. Clara Schumann was a German pianist, composer, and piano teacher. Regarded as one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era, she exerted her influence over the course of a 61-year concert career. She married the composer Robert Schumann, and the couple had eight children. Together, they encouraged Johannes Brahms and maintained a close relationship with him. She gave the public premieres of many works by her husband and by Brahms. Both of these composers are also featured in our concert, with Romanzen und Balladen by Schumann, sung by an ensemble of 12 singers, and with Brahms’ Quartets for four soloists.
