Dear Friends and supporters of Pro Coro Canada

Patience is a Virtue! And I’d have to lie if I was saying that I’ve been waiting for the next phase in our pandemic opening without frustration! It’s been a unique choral season, and we’ve learned a lot about singing with masks, safe work spaces, working a livestream, and, - well, patience!

Here in Alberta we’re moving soon into Phase 2, which means we will be able to gather in groups under certain restrictions. This is exciting news, and here at Pro Coro Canada we’ve been pivoting once more into production mode. So, I’m really happy to announce that we have ONE more concert ready for you this season:

On June 27, Sunday evening, we will perform the epic Path of Miracles by Brit Joby Talbot. The performance will feature the entire choir - still masked and distanced - and will be livestreamed on tv.procoro.ca. Pro Coro has performed this a cappella work before, once even in collaboration with the Richard Eaton Singers at the Winspear Centre. If you have attended our New Year’s Eve concert, you will have heard the final movement Santiago.

In 2017 Pro Coro Canada produced the first Edmonton International Choral Festival with guest artists from across Canada and Europe. The four-day festival featured major evening concerts, lectures and community workshops. In 2019, the second edition was held in a similar format and which brought together Didgori (Georgia, Eurasia) Tafelmusik from Toronto, Pro Coro, our youth choir #connect and Maria Guinand from Venezuela. Our third edition was planned for this past weekend, June 2021, with guests from Eastern Europe and the US. But as so many other things, it was cancelled due to the global pandemic. Pro Coro is planning to hold the next edition of the EICF in June 2023, more information will follow in due time.

Pro Coro Canada will be featured on Big E Radio’s “Maple Infused Classic Breakfast” on Saturday, June 12, at 11:00am MDT. Join host Tammy-Jo Mortensen as she explores several Scandinavian pieces performed at Pro Coro’s 20th anniversary concert, including Lindberg’s "Pingst" and Stenhammar’s "Tre Körvisor" conducted by founding director Michel Gervais.

Big E Radio’s mandate is to share music by local Edmontonian, Albertan, and Canadian artists. We are thrilled to be featured on this episode, and updates about future episodes featuring Pro Coro will be shared as they are released.
