Upon her return, she began rediscovering the vibrant choral community in Edmonton. Over the years she has sung with numerous ensembles including Richard Eaton Singers, U of A Madrigal Singers, Asani, Chronos Vocal Ensemble, and many others. She was also the assistant conductor for Chorale Saint-Jean for more than 15 years. In addition to singing with Pro Coro, she is currently a section lead with A Joyful Noise. After teaching music in the public school system for many years, Catherine felt called towards something new: she began studies in funeral service in September 2019, and is now a funeral director. What is your major musical influence? Bach has been my favourite composer since I was 12. I have always loved Baroque music as well as music that has been inspired and influenced by that style of music - but I have always had a deep appreciation of performing all genres of music in a choral setting. It is so deeply satisfying to sing music that has been composed for Pro Coro by composers-in-residence such as Paul Mealor and Ugis Praulins. What are your favourite Pro Coro Canada performances? Historically my favourite concerts have been the Pro Coro Good Friday concerts and the New Year's Eve concerts, but every performance and each concert offers something special both to the performers and to the audience members. Which performance should people come and hear, and why? I feel that there may be something in each concert that could be of interest to an audience member but personal tastes will certainly influence which concert will be most satisfying to the listener. My best recommendation would be to check out every concert and discover what is most enticing and fascinating to you!
