Adolphus Hailstork’s I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes is a three-part cantata for tenor soloist and SATB chorus. The text is drawn from Psalms 121, 13, and 23, with the title reflecting the theme of trust in the Lord’s protection. Composed in memory of Undine Smith Moore, known as the "Dean of Black Women Composers," this work blends spiritual depth with rich choral expression.

His musical education also included training at the Manhattan School of Music, the American Institute at Fontainebleau with Nadia Boulanger, and Howard University.

A prolific composer, Hailstork has created works for chorus, solo voice, piano, organ, chamber ensembles, band, orchestra, and opera. His compositions have been performed by major orchestras, including those in Philadelphia, Chicago, and New York, under renowned conductors such as James de Priest, Daniel Barenboim, and Jo Ann Falletta. Most recently, Thomas Wilkins conducted An American Port of Call with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
