Welcome to the 2022.2023 season of Pro Coro Canada! 

Can you believe that it is the 10th anniversary of my artistic leadership with Pro Coro Canada?! My first concert with the ensemble took place in September 2012, and I could not be more excited than to mark this occasion in September 2022.

The 22.23 season of Pro Coro Canada starts off with The Nightingale, featuring this epic work by Ugis Praulins alongside some of my other favorite a cappella works, and compositions by Canadians who worked closely with us over the past 10 years. Another highlight is our Moonshot IV concert, The Dayking, which features the Growlers Choir from Montreal. Have you ever heard heavy metal singers perform in a classical choral concert? This promises to be on-the-edge and powerful, don’t miss it! 

Two of my favorite large choral works are featured this season, the Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini, in partnership with the Voice Studio at the University of Alberta, and the All-Night Vigil by Rachmaninoff, where Da Camera Singers will join us to create a sonorous 60-voice choir! These concerts are part of the Pro Coro Experience Series, which also includes our traditional programs such as Missae IX with settings of the Latin Mass by a Filipino and a Swiss composer, and the well-beloved Good Friday concert. We’ll round-out the season offering with a rich selection of music for strings and choir, featuring the Vaughan String Quartet, in The Tower and The Garden.

The Pro Coro Select Series invites you, as every year during Advent, for a reflective hour with the Little Match Girl Passion. And of course, we want to close off 2022 with great choral music at the annual New Year’s Eve with Pro Coro concert! Join us for an evening of eclectic music, sing along to Auld Lang Syne and toast the new year with some bubbles!

In our EAR program, you will meet many Emerging Artists over the course of the season, and I am particularly excited about the return of our choir for emerging singers: #connect.  This ensemble will be coached by Pro Coro Canada singers, and will perform an eclectic repertoire on the theme of War and Peace in A Thought of War.

After two seasons in a pandemic work environment, the Performing Arts sector is slowly coming back to life. We understand and feel the desire of audiences to come and hear us live, and it invigorates us to have you present when we sing. We also understand that culture and entertainment can not be a priority for many in the current economy. 

Therefore, to support access to live choral music performances, Pro Coro Canada will freeze single ticket and subscription prices for this coming season, offer a cheaper package for online viewing and provide cost-effective add-ons. At the same time, in order to support the culture sector, Pro Coro Canada has also increased the remuneration for our singers and staff. Please keep supporting Pro Coro Canada through donations to our Endowment at the Edmonton Community Foundation, or to our day-to-day operations, and talk to us about opportunities to sustain Pro Coro Canada.
