Pro Coro Canada is committed to providing educational programs and experiences for emerging artists. Throughout the global pandemic, we have had the opportunity to adapt these programs and their delivery, and expand their reach in the community. The Emerging Artists program now features content available through ProCoroTV, which includes rehearsals, practice videos, reading sessions of new choral repertoire, and introductions to choral techniques, all free of charge.

This June, our Emerging Artists #connect choir will perform during our final concert of the 2022-2023 season. This performance will feature compositions by Gregory Spears, Laura Hawley, Marie-Clarie Saindon, Torbjörn Dyrud and Viktor Muzchil. #connect will be featured in a performance of Saindon’s When a Thought of War Comes, and they will also join Pro Coro Canada during the final piece of the concert.

Pro Coro Canada invites individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences to audition with Edmonton’s premiere professional choral ensemble. We are holding auditions for both core and extra positions, which are designed to accommodate various time commitments.

These ensembles include the Augustana Choir, the University of Alberta Madrigal Singers, University Symphony Orchestra, and the Edmonton Youth Orchestra.

She returned to Edmonton in 2020 after 5 years of living in Wales, where she completed her MA in Opera Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She had previously completed her Masters in Voice Performance at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and her Bachelor’s in Opera Performance from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC.

What is your major musical influence?

My major musical influences are a bit all over the place! I’m inspired by any musicians doing something different and unique with their instrument or their compositions. It’s so exciting to see any art form that’s been practiced for this long continuing to grow and evolve as time passes, while still honouring its history.

What are your favorite Pro Coro Canada performances?

Honestly, all the Pro Coro performances I’ve been involved with have been great fun in their own ways, but in general I’d have to say that the Moonshot concerts have been some of my favourites. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of two of these concerts since I joined the choir – Including the most recent with the Montreal Growlers Choir, which felt like an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience – and these concerts always allow us to experiment so much as singers with the sounds we’re making, which is so much fun to do, and so freeing!

The good news is that the music we sing with Pro Coro is so varied there’s bound to be something in any given season that will appeal to you. As I’m writing this we’re a week away from our Good Friday concert, so that’s definitely top of mind at the moment, since we have some absolutely beautiful and extremely varied music programmed. But if you’re up for an adventure, I’d recommend just going to whichever concert you can make it to next and see what resonates with you!
