Summer 2021 Edition

Dear Friends and supporters of Pro Coro Canada

I hope this message finds you well. Here in Alberta we’re experiencing challenging air quality these days due to the wildfires. It reminds me of our Choral Festival in 2019 where the choir performed under these circumstances. There was even a cloud of smoke hanging in the air in All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral.

As we move into the summer weeks, I would like to introduce our Meet The Team series. As a concert goer - digital or in-person - you meet our singers on a regular basis. Of course, the team behind the scenes is as crucial in getting our performances ready and functioning well. First up, I’d like to give the stage to our newest addition, Micha Poworoznik. Micha has been working with us for about one month and brings a wealth of choral experience as well as her skill-set as marketing professional to our team.

A quick reminder that the Pro Coro office is closed from July 23 through to August 3. Soon after, we will reveal our 21.22 season to you!

Meet the Team: Micha Poworoznik

Micha Poworoznik is a versatile arts administrator and classical pianist from Edmonton, Alberta. Since completing her BMus degree at The King’s University, she has acted in various roles with music and arts organizations across Edmonton. These include the Edmonton Chamber Music Society, the Silver Skate Festival, and the Winspear Centre/Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, where she currently sits as a member of their Young Leadership Council. Micha also recently served as the Music Department Coordinator at The King’s University, gathering a wealth of experience with performing arts planning and marketing.

Micha is currently completing her Masters degree in Arts Leadership and Management at Queen’s University and looks forward to furthering her career in arts administration with the goal of making an impact within the Canadian classical music scene. In her spare time, she enjoys singing with the award-winning chamber choir Kappella Kyrie and (normally) attending as many concerts as possible.

Micha has been working with Pro Coro since mid-June and is excited to promote the upcoming season and stretch her creative side as Marketing & Digital Media Producer.

1. What is your favourite book?

   • Right now, the only books I’m reading are textbooks, but when I’m not, I like to pick up my Sherlock Holmes collection.

2. What is your favourite movie?

   • Monty Python and the Holy Grail - I love classic British comedy.

3. Cilantro: yes or no?

   • Definitely not! I have the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap. I can smell it from a mile away.

4. Cottage in the Alps, or cottage on the beach?

   • Since two of my favourite places are the mountains and Europe, I would have to say cottage in the Alps.

5. What is your most memorable choral experience?

   • In 2018, my university choir did a tour of the Netherlands. It was amazing singing in massive, old churches, but the most memorable location we sang was at an old concentration camp.
