EAR #34 Dear choral colleagues, This weekend we will premier 6 new works by Canadian composers! It’s been a very rewarding experience to rehearse this music and then meet the composers in person, just two days ago. You have been introduced to the PIVOT composers over the last weeks, and I hope you have the chance to hear their music in-person in Edmonton or on our livestream. Every year I am invited to work with the students at the Department of Art and Design at the University of Alberta. Their instructor Judy Armstrong, Pro Coro’s long-time designer, and I select music from the current season and I lead through an exploration of the story, the sounds and the structure of the work. The students then have an assignment to express the music and its elements through Type Setting, and other graphic design concepts. You might have seen some results and finished works exhibited at our Little Match Girl Passion concerts.
