In addition to singing, she teaches voice and piano lessons from her home studio, and has been particularly thrilled this year to see the progress of her beginner students as they dive into the language of music. What is your major musical influence? A few key people come to mind: Miss Benner – my first piano teacher – who sent me home one summer break with a book of easy arrangements of famous classical pieces that were so fun to play; Jaclyn Riemer, who helped me dip my toes into the world of classical voice; Gord Adnams, who shaped my ideas about church music; and Jolaine Kerley and Laurier Fagnan, who have been outstanding pedagogues. What are your favourite Pro Coro Canada performances? I loved last year’s Missae concert, when we sang three of my favourites: Missa Regensis by Ugis Praulins, Mass for Recovery by Jane Berry, and Mass for Double Choir by Frank Martin. Another favourite memory is performing The Way Children Sleep in Banff in 2018. Which performance should people come and hear, and why? A fondness for Praulins compositions pervades the choir, and for this reason, I will recommend the Good Friday concert, which featured his Stabat Mater alongside Bach, Sandström, and more.
