In July, through the support of a grant from the Edmonton Arts Council, Pro Coro Canada commissioned 8 composers from Edmonton to write new choral works for four voices. You likely have read about the composers and their processes in our blog series. In discussion with community choral leaders during the early stages of the pandemic, we discovered the need for support material for online rehearsals. As you might know, IF choirs are practising these days, it happens in an online forum, for example Zoom or Google Meet. This is a very challenging environment, and depends on so many technological, human and musical pieces playing well together. One challenge in particular is how individual singers can practise at home, without the support of a conductor, section lead, pianist or their fellow singers. For that purpose, we have created individual practise videos for ALL the voice parts of ALL the 8 New Works. Canadian Voices Education Series This material is aimed at community singers and choral leaders across Canada, interested in learning new music by Edmonton composers, working on their musicianship skills at home, and doing so with the help of professional singers. As a singer and choral leader, you will have unrestricted access to all the practise videos.
