Dear friends and colleagues Thank you for your continued interest in our programming for choral pedagogues. I believe that most of you are in a situation where you have to find ways to connect in a meaningful way with your choral community in a video conference. It is such a challenging and tiring process, week after week. With Pro Coro Canada, we are fortunate that under certain circumstances and conditions we are able to sing together. This week, we are participating in a research project with the MacEwan University. Our rehearsal process under Covid19 restrictions is being filmed, recorded and streamed in order to develop best practises for the portrayal of choral art on screen. In addition, we are exploring choral works by emerging artists, and I hope you have the opportunity to watch and observe the rehearsal process (see video links below). It is fascinating to dive into new sonorities, explore extended vocal techniques and discuss compositional elements with the singers. The rehearsal highlights some challenges in new works. For example, did you know that it is very tricky to whistle in a choral piece? You can hear for yourself in this video at the 1hour 45minutes mark. And how do you include bird calls, cows and the odd donkey into a choral work? The same video at the 2hours 25minutes mark will show you the animal circus … I hope you tune-in again today!
