Canadian composer Jason Noble composed Furiouser and Spuriouser after reflecting on how closely the internet mirrors the darker side of Wonderland in the story Alice in Wonderland. The subtitle of the piece, “Unforeseen Consequences of the Democratization of Knowledge,” points to this theory.
Once imagined as a digital utopia, the Internet was celebrated for its endless possibilities, a space where knowledge would be abundant and freely accessible, and creativity could flourish without limits.
Noble reiterated that while the internet has opened remarkable avenues for connection and information-sharing, this same openness has also exposed a darker side.
In 2018, Noble was part of Pro Coro Canada’s Choral Art: Conductors and Composers program at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, with Uģis Prauliņš as the mentor composer. Through this program, Noble composed Furiouser and Spuriouser, which was performed by Pro Coro Canada.
