What is your major musical influence? My mother—she tried to teach me piano, taught me to sight sing, conducted the church choir, and played a lot of music in our household. William Street, Frederick L. Hemke, Howard Bashaw, M.William Karlins, and Merla Aikman were all critical to my development after my mom had enough. What are your favorite Pro Coro Canada performances? I’ve only been in Pro Coro for a little over a year, but it’s a toss-up between my first concert, 2022 Missae, with its sublime settings of the ancient Latin Mass texts and the recent Dayking concert with the Montreal Growlers Choir and the delicious threat of imminent apocalypse. Which performance should people come and hear, and why? They should come and hear every performance by Pro Coro Canada, my colleagues and Maestro Zaugg are extraordinarily talented and committed to the highest quality. Each concert is something excellent, exciting, and different.
