If you give a choir some money…
they’re going to give back to their community. Tenfold!
My daughter and I loved the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff.
Besides being silly and fun, it helped her to understand the concept of interconnectedness - how one thing leads to another.
I’m often faced with questions when it comes to supporting choral art, and the arts in general. Don’t the choral arts receive funding and ticket sales? Shouldn’t we support other causes that impact community?
Every professional arts organization will gladly tell you that performing art at the highest level and providing invaluable training for emerging artists means paying musicians an appropriate wage, operating a financially sound and well-governed organization, while keeping tickets as affordable as possible. To achieve this, an organization relies on the three legs of the stool:
So why is it so important to support Pro Coro Canada? What can philanthropy help the choir do?
Much like giving a mouse a cookie has a ripple effect, if you give a choir a philanthropic gift, they might:
delight and inspire Edmonton audiences with a season of enthralling choral music
record a JUNO Award-winning album
fuel the engine of choral composition by premiering new works of mostly Canadian composers
bring artistic excellence through ProCoroTV to 15,000 viewers tuning in from Canada and 40 countries around the world
research and present innovative reimaginations of a Land Acknowledgement, with Naheyawin
mentor and train the next generation of choral singers, conductors, and composers through its Emerging Artist Program
showcase Edmonton’s premier chamber choir to different audiences and mentor emerging artists while on tour
Having a premier, professional choir in our city is an incredible privilege that adds richness, joy, and a connection to something intangible. And never was this more evident than during COVID-19. Our very wellbeing relied on our artists to give us connection during isolation, to bring hope when things were bleak, and to remind us that humans will always find ways to express, create, and connect through music.
So we’re coming to you, our concertgoers and best supporters, to ask for your help to raise funds for Pro Coro Canada’s upcoming tour in Ontario this July. The choir will present five concerts in five cities as well as workshops and training for young singers and choral conductors in Toronto and Owen Sound.
To support the tour, visit procoro.ca/donate and write “Ontario tour” in your donation note.
If you would like to make a dedication gift to honour a family member, or become a sponsor to market your business, please contact Rhanda – philanthropy@procoro.ca.
Thank you for your continued support! You make it possible for Pro Coro Canada to do great things, especially if you give a choir some money.
