Songs of the Harvest Moon
7:30 PM
First Presbyterian Church
-
Join the singers of Pro Coro Canada for an evening of autumnal eplorations. We travel across musical periods and hear from Romantic masters like Brahms and Mendelssohn, to living composers, talking about all things Fall. A special treat is the music by Tormis. He has collected old tunes across the Baltics and arranged them into exquisite choral miniatures. And Dale Trumbores’ contemporary cycle about the years, of which we will perform the settings from September to November, is a welcome discovery.
Our partner Naheyawin joins us to shine a light on indigenous ways of celebrating Harvest. We’re excited to be working again with Jacquelyn Cardinal, who has already made a big impact on us, and our audiences, in our last season.
Veljo Tormis - 9 Estonian Harvest Songs
Jacob Narverud - Harvest, the Moon shines down
Sherryl Sewepagaham - Harvesting & Gathering Song
Johannes Brahms - Im Herbst
Dale Trumbore - Calendar of Light, selection

One of Pro Coro’s longtime traditions, Missae brings musical settings of the Latin Mass into the concert space.
Over the season, the choir has performed a wide range of music, for choir a cappella, for male choir, and for choir and organ under this annual program.
Our 10th edition features the Mass for 16 voices by Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch, composed in 1783 for the "Berliner Sing-Akademie", and in the style of Italian composer Benevoli, who’s Mass in time of pestilence will also be performed.

Every once in a while two of Canada’s top professional choirs get together. We were lucky to just have had a concert with the Elora Festival Singers in July.
This concert features the renowned Vancouver Chamber Choir, with Kari Turunen. We are extremely excited about performing with our peers from BC, and present choral music that will mount to a sonic feast. The concert includes a new work by Eugene Astapov, written for the two combined choirs, and works by Canadians Matthew Whittall, Laura Hawley and Stuart Beatch.

Canadian composer Cassandra Miller’s title-giving work is score for 4 groups and enwraps the listener in a medieval sonic texture.

Alleyway Psalms
7:30 PM
location to be announced
-
The Book of Psalms is an anthology of hymns about thanksgiving, songs of praise or laments. We wondered what our songs, the songs of Edmonton, would sound like.
Join us in exploring some of our local stories, gritty narratives and joyful observations, coming from the downtown back alley and blossoming river valley. It is undeniable that there will be a steampunk element to our Psalms.
Our partner Naheyawin joins us also for this concert to provide indigenous perspectives and parallels on our theme.
